Literacy/School Projects
HB PTO Halloween Carnival – cook hot dogs
Young Man/Woman of the Month - Each month the two students selected by the Hermosa Valley School Eighth Grade team are presented with a certificate of achievement and a $100 U.S. Savings Bond.
Eighth grade graduation scholarship awards - awarded at year's end to eighth graders who have maintained a 4.0 all three years of middle school.
Assistance to Local Groups
Project Touch –Contributed to Manhattan Beach Rotary's remodel of the facilities.
Service to the Elderly - The Salvation Army Meals on Wheels - every Tuesday members deliver meals to shut-ins on a route in N. Redondo Beach, and have done so for over 20 years.
Youth Projects
Sane and Sober Graduation - contribute funds to RUHSD and MCHSD for a safe and sane high school graduation evening celebration
HB Boy/Girl Scouts - meet in our building
HB Youth Basketball - sponsorship, purchase a banner at the community center
HB Youth Baseball League - sponsorship,purchase a banner for the outfield
Health
Relay for Life – members participate on various teams, others raise funds for the American Cancer Society
Feed the Hungry - Working on a matching grant with sister club Freeport Zone in the Philippines to feed the hungry.
Hunger
Easy Reader Thanksgiving – building use donated
Food on Foot - Members served meals to the homeless or underemployed in Hollywood.
Friends of the Library - Book collection and donation to FOL for them to sell
Toy collection - Beach Cites Toy Drive
Memorial Day Fiesta de las Artes - Manned a booth with the Foundation for the Junior Blind to screen pre-schoolers for vision problems. Those in need will be given free doctor exams as well as glasses.
Hermosa Beach Rotary Club Annual Christmas Dinner/Auction
Salvation Army Kettle - bell ringing at Vons in December each year
Hermosa Beach Rotary Foundation -run in conjunction with the club so that any money contributed is tax deductible, and all funds go directly to good works. No salaries are paid!
Shambala - Foster parents to "Louie" the lion, one of more than 60 big cats rescued and housed at a wildlife refuge in Acton. Member David Gainey volunteers countless hours at the preserve also.
